W.R. J. Brown

OSA Fellow W.R. J. Brown graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering Physics from the University of Toronto. In 1949, he earned a Master’s of Science in Physics from the University of Rochester. In 1956, OSA awarded him the Adolph Lomb Medal. Throughout his career, he worked at Kodak (Senior Physicist), United-Carr Incorporated, which became a division of TRW Inc. (Vice President of Research and Development), and Ealing Corporation (Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer).

Brown established his own company, Daedalon Corporation, in 1971. Located in Cambridge and later Salem, Massachusetts, Daedalon designed, manufactured and marketed scientific teaching equipment, electronic instruments and optical research support equipment in the United States and throughout the world. Bud held the office of President until the company was sold in 2007.

He passed away in 2015.
